When applying for a passport in Nepal, the following documents are required:
1. A copy of the application form with the barcode and QR code received after filling out the form (preferably printed, and if not, digital copy).
2. Original Nepali Citizenship Certificate or original Minor Identity Card.
3. Original current passport/expired passport (if already a bearer of Nepali Passport).
4. National Identity Card or the National Identity Card number.
5. Bank voucher or cash receipt of the revenue payment.
Additional Documents for Minors: When applying for passport for minors (below the age of 16) at the Department of Passports, following additional documents (original copy) must be presented:
1. Verification of the minor identity card from the relevant district/area administration office (district verification)
2. Citizenship of parents/guardian of the minor applicant
3. Additional documents, if necessary
Passport Application Process:
Procedure of applying for an e-passport:
1. To fill out the online pre-enrollment form for an e-passport, the following steps must be followed:
(a) First of all, fill out the online application form, and book the date and time of appointment.

(b) Then, four options will appear:
(a) To apply for a passport for the first time (New)
(b) To renew an expired passport (Renewal)
(c) To obtain a passport in place of a lost/stolen passport (Replacement - Lost/Stolen)
(d) To obtain a passport in place of a damaged passport (Damaged)
You must choose the appropriate option. For example:
If you have previously obtained a machine-readable passport (MRP) or an e-passport, choose “Renewal.” If you have not obtained any MRP or E-passport before, select "To apply for a passport for the first time." Also, if you had previously only obtained a handwritten passport, you will need to select the option "To apply for a passport for the first time."
If a new passport needs to be issued due to an error by the office, select the same option as was used for the incorrect passport i.e. “To obtain a passport in place of a damaged passport”
If a new passport is required due to an applicant’s own error, select “Renewal.”
Applicants who are employed in the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, or other institutions and have previously obtained a machine-readable passport under the Gratis facility for peace-keeping missions but currently do not possess the passport, should select the “Renewal” option and mention the previous passport number in the application form.
If you hold an official or diplomatic passport, you are not required to mention its number when applying for a regular passport. Simply proceed with the appropriate application option.
(c) After that, select whether you want to apply for a 34-page or 66-page passport and click the "Proceed" button.
(d) Then, choose the location from where you are applying. If applying from abroad, select "Other" option and choose your country of birth.
Fill out all required details step-by-step in the application form and upload the specified/required documents.
Note: When uploading documents, scan the original documents and ensure that the file size is 300 KB or less. Click here to see the required documents.
(e) After completing the entire form, review all the details to ensure they are accurate and match the uploaded supporting documents. Then, click save and submit the form online.
(f) After submission, a "Download PDF" option will appear. Download the form and save the digital copy. Print the downloaded form and visit the enrolment center at the scheduled time. If you do not have a printing facility, you can also save the form on your mobile phone and bring it with you. However, when bringing it on your mobile, make sure to bring the original downloaded form (PDF, not a screenshot).
Note: If there is any error in your printed passport, a new application fee must be submitted with the applicable fee. Therefore, fill out the details carefully and accurately. It is best to fill it out the details yourself, and if someone else is assisting, make sure to review the details yourself.
Also, if you find any errors after submitting the form, you can request for correction at the time your photo is taken. After making corrections, review all the details properly before signing the form. Once your photo is taken and the form is approved, corrections cannot be made. If an error is found afterward, the passport must be cancelled, and the entire process must be started again from the beginning.
